BARE BOW SHOOTING TIP OF THE WEEK

TIP 1

IF YOU WANT TO BECOME A GOOD ARCHER SHOOT UNTIL THE BOW BECOMES AN EXTENSION OF YOU. IF YOU WANT TO BECOME A GREAT ARCHER SHOOT UNTIL THE ARROW BECOMES AN EXTENSION. IN OTHER WORDS,"BECOME THE ARROW"

TIP 2

WHEN IT COMES TO SHOOTING A BOW AND ARROW THE 2 MOST IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER ARE :

1 - HOLD THE BOW ON TARGET UNTIL THE ARROW HITS. THIS POINT CAN NOT BE OVER STRESSED. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE IF YOUR RELEASE IS LESS THAN PERFECT. THE MORE "LESS THAN PERFECT" THE RELEASE THE MORE IMPORTANT IT IS TO HOLD THE BOW ON TARGET.

2 - MAKE SURE THE ELBOW OF THE ARM YOU USE TO DRAW THE STRING IS IN LINE WITH THE TARGET. THIS WILL HELP YOU MAKE A GOOD RELEASE.

TIP 3

I'M OFTEN ASK HOW I CAN HIT ASPIRINS TOSSED INTO THE AIR. I ALWAYS SHOOT AT THE CENTER OF THE TARGET, NO MATTER WHAT THE TARGET IS.  THE CENTER OF AN ASPIRIN IS EXACTLY THE SAME SIZE AS THE CENTER OF A BEACHBALL.

TIP 4

BAREBOW SHOOTERS ALL SEEM TO BE LUMPED INTO THE "INSTINCTIVE" CLASS. NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH. HOWARD HILL HAS BEEN CALLED THE GREATEST INSTINCTIVE SHOOTER OF ALL TIME EVEN THOUGH HE CAREFULLY LAID OUT HIS METHOD OF AIMING IN HIS BOOK "HUNTING THE HARD WAY". MR.HILL CALLED HIS METHOD 'SPLIT VISION", TODAY WE CALL THIS METHOD "GAP SHOOTING". A GAP SHOOTER USES THE POINT OF THE ARROW AS A SIGHT PIN.  I CALL MY METHOD 'BECOME THE ARROW".  I LAUGH AND TELL PEOPLE THAT I'M AN "INSTINCTIVE GAP SHOOTER".  WHERE GAP SHOOTING REQUIRES THE ARCHER TO SPLIT THEIR CONCENTRATION 50% ON TARGET AND 50% ON THE POINT OF THE ARROW. I AM CONCENTRATING 90% ON TARGET AND ONLY 10% ON WHERE THE ARROW IS POINTED.

TIP 5

NO MATTER WHAT STYLE BOW YOU SHOOT. BE IT A SELF BOW, LONGBOW, RECURVE, COMPOUND, OR EVEN CROSS BOW THERE'S ONE THING WE ALL HAVE IN COMMON. THE BOW IS NOT THE MOST IMPORTANT PIECE OF OUR EQUIPMENT. BY FAR THE MOST IMPORTANT IS THE ARROW. I UNDERSTAND SOME WILL THINK I'M CRAZY FOR MAKING THIS STATEMENT. FOR THOSE I ASK YOU TOO TRY THIS. GET YOUR $2000 + CUSTOM BOW OUT. THEN GO TO THE BUSH OUT BACK AND CUT A SMALL LIMB, PUT SOME FEATHERS ON IT AND SEE HOW WELL YOU CAN SHOOT IT FROM YOUR HIGH DOLLAR BOW. THEN GO TO THE SAME BUSH AND CUT A GOOD SIZE LIMB AND MAKE A BOW FROM IT. NOW GO TO THE ARCHERY SHOP AND GET SOME ARROWS THAT WILL TUNE TO YOUR NEW BOW AND YOU WILL BE AMAZED AT HOW WELL YOU CAN SHOOT IT.

TIP 6

USING THE WORD "ANCHOR" AS IT RELATES TO ARCHERY IS A BAD CHOICE TO DESCRIBE HOLDING THE STRING AT A PARTICULAR POSITION. IT INDICATES THAT YOU STOP PULLING AND SIMPLY HOLD IN PLACE. WHILE IT IS TURE THAT MANY ARCHERS USE THIS METHOD IT IS ALSO TURE THAT MOST ARE AVERAGE SHOTS AT BEST. GOOD ARCHERS CONTINUE TO PULL THROUGH THE SHOT. THE EASIEST WAY TO DO THIS IS ONCE YOU TOUCH THE "ANCHOR" PULL THE ELBOW BACK UNTIL IT IS IN LINE WITH THE TARGET.
